Maryland's nonprofit sector includes more than 24,000 organizations that are involved in all aspects of civic and community life.

Maryland's nonprofits provide child care, employment and training programs, education, arts, recreation, religious and cultural activities, housing, health care, social services and so much more.  The nonprofit sector is also a major economic engine, employing more than 228,000 Marylanders and contributing to the economy in each and every county through expenditures on goods, services and payroll.

The success of Maryland's nonprofit organizations depends upon public confidence and support.  But how can people know which nonprofits are trustworthy, acting ethically and accountably?  The Standards for Excellence program is designed to promote excellence and integrity in nonprofit management.  Organizations voluntarily participate by tugme!subjecting their internal practices to a rigorous "ethics check-up."  If certified, they are granted permission to proudly display the Seal of Excellence, a symbol of trust.

We invite you to use this site to further explore Maryland's nonprofit community.  Learn about the differences nonprofit organizations are making in the lives of all Marylanders every day.
